DCG Strategies Secures East Oakland Property for Dream Center Transitional Housing

DCG Strategies announces the official sale of Oakland’s Dream Center transitional housing, located on 2321 International Boulevard in Oakland, to Kingdom Builders Christian Fellowship, a non-denominational church and nonprofit organization that has been operating the facility since 2017. The purchase comes on the heels of Kingdom Builders’ multi-year lease of the property, which was facilitated by DCG Strategies.

“We are thrilled to help source and secure this property for Kingdom Builders and ensure a sustainable foundation for the work they do,” says Landis Graden, CEO of DCG Strategies. “This is the epitome of what our firm is about, the intersection of real estate and community-based organizations, without sacrificing either money or mission for our clients.”

The East Oakland property, which had been family-owned for more than seven decades prior to the sale, was formerly the Mitchell Hotel, a single-room occupancy building. The property owners, Harry and Reshma Patel, approached DCG Strategies in 2016 with the hope of eventually selling the property to a buyer who would use the building to make a positive social impact.

After eight months of searching for a right fit, Jamil Muchell, vice president of real estate strategy for DCG, identified a promising offer that checked all the boxes, an Oakland church that wanted to use the building as a transitional housing program for men released from prison.

“We were already working with state agencies to obtain resources for a transitional housing program,” said LJ Jennings, founder and senior pastor of Kingdom Builders. “We just needed a home for it. This was the perfect place to realize our vision: a 100-bed transitional home for men to get back on their feet and rebuild their lives. A place of respect that honors and sees them in their destiny, not their history.”

Since its launch, the Oakland Dream Center has admitted more than 350 men to the program, who live on the premises full-time for up to a year; more than 250 have successfully graduated from its program.
