PITTSBURG, Calif. (May 19, 2010) — Northern California Community Development (NCCD), a non-profit headed by Bishop Jerry Macklin of Glad Tidings Church in Hayward, CA and focused on providing affordable housing alternatives for struggling communities in the San Francisco Bay Area, has successfully closed its first transaction under its new affordable homes initiative. Partnering with Chase Bank, NCCD rolled out a full-service program where qualified low-income home buyers can purchase affordable homes throughout the Bay Area.

NCCD was founded by Bishop Macklin and the Trustees of Glad Tidings Church of God in Christ in 1992. Its mission began with the desire to reestablish a sense of hope, pride, stability and self-worth in otherwise struggling communities. Over the years, Bishop Macklin and NCCD have created workforce development and job placement services for local citizens. Focused on helping those in need, the non-profit also has acquired local multi-family housing properties and has offered subsidized rent programs for low-income households.

Experienced with affordable housing solutions, NCCD’s Board President Landis Graden spearheaded the housing initiative. Working closely with Chase Bank, Graden and NCCD acquired a foreclosure property, that had been damaged by fire, in Pittsburg, CA. To meet the affordable housing program’s standards, the home needed to be completely rehabilitated. Bringing in key players like Nicole Reams of Dutra-Cerro-Graden and Jerome Harris of WJ x 2 Construction, Graden was able to oversee the entire rehabilitation process. On April 2, 2010, the homeowner selected by NCCD, Janet Grant, began moving into her new home.

“Partnering with Chase has been a blessing to our organization and our mission of providing affordable housing to those that need it most,” said Graden.

With the recent success of its affordable homes initiative, NCCD plans to replicate the process with several other homes in nearby communities. To learn more about this program, contact Landis Graden, NCCD’s Board President, at (510) 714-4410 or [email protected].
